We love nothing more than hearing all about our brides’ plans for their big day, and with summertime here we are seeing many of you taking advantage of the better weather and opting for taking your wedding day into the great outdoors.  From shabby-chic garden settings to rustic barns, and bohemian marquees, we love something that’s a little different here at Oscar Lili, and are always excited to help our brides find a dress perfect for any occasion. When spending the day outdoors, many brides want their dress to have a relaxed feel; so we’ve picked out some gorgeous boho-inspired styles which we think strike the perfect balance between chic and comfortable. With lace, florals and embroidery being prominent bridal trends of 2019, this is the perfect time for Boho-brides to be spoilt for choice when it comes to romantic and dreamy dresses. We think you will love Sarah, by Oscar Lili. This dress is the epitome of effortlessness and is very much unique. The material is made up of soft satin, layered with lightweight tulle which is delicately embroidered with a whimsical floral pattern. The sheer bell sleeves give a nostalgic vintage vibe and paired with the light A-line skirt create a lovely, relaxed Boho silhouette. To keep it modern the neckline is V-shaped, and would look great with some simple necklaces to accessorise. More traditionally seen to the back, what adds a little more interest is the gorgeous button detailing up the front. Such a flattering and easy-wearing style which would suit a variety of body-shapes, you’ll never want to take it off.   If you prefer a little understated glamour, as opposed to vintage-inspired then we think BT19-07 from Enzoani’s Beautiful collection will be the dress for you. The fitted bodice has a plunge sweetheart neck which is contemporary, flattering and a bit more sexy. However, the lightweight flowing tulle fabric gives a beautiful A-line drape to the skirt which keeps it feeling relaxed and simple. The all-over embroidered Chantilly lace creates that bohemian feel and we love the romantic addition of the soft off-shoulder lace sleeves. There are subtle sequins sewn onto the bodice which dial up the glamour just a tad if you want some sparkle. This is a versatile dress as it can be dressed up with your accessories or completely simplified into more of a classic strapless gown as the straps can be removed.    Next up we have selected some bridal separates, for the girl who loves variety. These are perfect for the boho-bride as our collection is made up of gorgeous lace and beaded fabrics, which can mix and match with simpler pieces to feel a little bit more casual than a full detailed gown. Another benefit is that separates are super comfortable to wear and with the option for layering tops, you can change your style and be prepared for varying temperatures throughout the day. Worn over a custom-made corset or thin strappy cami, our Bluebell Bolero by Oscar Lili is one of our favourites which is made of 70’s inspired crochet lace. There are a variety of options with this style as sleeves are either long or ¾ length; as well as a unique cape design depending on the bride’s preference. It comes in a flattering high neck style which adds a little sophistication to your look, or you can choose off-the-shoulder which would be gorgeous on a warm summer day. We think our sleek Naomi skirt in matte double crepe silk would be a perfect pairing, giving a look of understated elegance and originality.  If you’re feeling inspired, book an appointment with us at info@oscarlili.co.uk and we’ll share our styling expertise to help you select your perfect outfit.

Since it’s now well and truly Autumn, we’ve been reminiscing over all of the gorgeous summer wedding photos our brides have been sharing with us and came across this lovely couple, Kyle and Helen, who got married back in August. Helen got in touch to say “we had the perfect day and the dress was everything I wanted it to be. Thank you for everything!”   These huge smiles say it all, and we are so proud to see Helen looking elegant and effortless in this Oscar Lili bridal design. She went for the Simone wedding dress which has a sweet vintage style lace bodice with cap sleeves for a relaxed and delicate look. The V-neckline and low V-back of the dress balance out the design and give it a youthful and feminine touch, whilst being so flattering on the figure. The crepe skirt is free-flowing and also draped perfectly on Helen, making the gown easy-wearing, and lightweight for a Summer wedding.     Helen and Kyle’s wedding took place at St Magnus Cathedral in Orkney. A stunning, historic venue which combines traditional elements with an intimate feel. Helen styled the Simone bridal gown perfectly for the occasion by wearing a simple single layered chapel length veil which kept her look classic and sophisticated; the lace edging was a beautiful compliment to the dress and added a finishing touch with no fuss. We also loved the choice of clean white roses for the bouquet, made by local Orkney florist Flooers (https://www.flooers.co.uk/). A gorgeously simple Island wedding, what more could you want?   Congratulations to Kyle and Helen, we’re so happy to have contributed to your perfect day.   Photography credit: Fiona Scott (https://www.fionascottphotography.com/)

This week, the lovely Gintare got in touch to say “thank you for all your help getting my wedding dress. I was super happy with how I looked on my wedding day thanks to you!” We are also super happy as Gintare looked stunning and certainly did this Enzoani dress justice. Her bridal gown was a design from the Enzoani Beautiful Collection, style BT19-07; the bodice is fitted and strapless with a plunge sweetheart neck which is contemporary, flattering and looked lovely on Gintare, being so petite. The all-over embroidered Chantilly lace gave her a subtle bohemian feel and we love the romantic addition of the delicate off-shoulder lace strap details. The lightweight flowing tulle fabric gives a beautiful A-line drape to the skirt which combined with the eyelash lace, created a relaxed and ethereal look. This was a perfect style worn with the long chapel length veil to bring a classic element, as the wedding ceremony was held in a traditional Roman Catholic church, followed by a breathtaking Lithuanian lakeside spa town called Druskininkai, where the reception took place. Gintare’s colour scheme was “harmonious pale pink, gold and ivory, and the main flowers featured were rose peonies”. The soft floral theme complimented this romantic bridal gown and accentuated the organic floral lace which is popular amongst Enzoani styles. We’re so happy to have helped Gintare find this gorgeous dress as it looks like it was made for her, she told us that “everything was perfect” with her day and we’re thrilled to have been a part of it.

If you’re in the process of booking your first ever bridal appointment, and have no idea what to expect then we are here to help! We’ve used our bridal know-how to answer some of the most asked bridal appointment questions we receive from new brides-to-be. We hope this helps, and if you have any additional inquiries contact us at info@oscarlili.co.uk    What happens at my first bridal appointment? During the first appointment we want brides to enjoy themselves above all else, and also to be experimental when trying on styles. We will have an initial consultation to discuss what look you think you want to go for. Selecting styles can be overwhelming when there is so much choice, so we give advice based on your personal style and ask you to select around 3-4 dresses which initially stand out to you. Our stylist will help you try these on, and will then add in more dresses to try as we go along. Hopefully we will find “the one” by the end of the appointment.   When should I book an appointment? Ideally we like appointments to be made 8-10 months before the wedding date; this is a must for the indecisive bride to allow for more adjustment time. It keeps the whole process enjoyable and stress-free. 6 months is the minimum time for a made-to-measure order and sample sale dresses can be purchased closer to your wedding date but please allow time to get your alterations done.    How should I prepare for my bridal appointment? First of all, set a budget for your dress to avoid disappointment if the one you love ends up too expensive.    Doing your research ahead of the appointment is helpful to give you a rough idea of styles you like and will give you a starting point for silhouettes to try. Pinterest or bridal magazines are a good place to start for inspiration. It is a great idea to go for a bra fitting before your appointment to make sure you are wearing the right size when your measurements are taken for a dress.   How long does a bridal appointment take? Our appointments usually take one hour but can be flexible to your requirements   What do I wear to bridal appointment? A nude strapless bra and nude pants, or a bodysuit are ideal; wearing shape-wear underwear is even better to smooth out your silhouette and give some basic structure underneath more fitted dresses.    What to bring to bridal appointment? If you have shoes, a veil, hair accessories or jewellery for your wedding then it is a great idea to bring these to your appointment too so we can consider the overall look.   Who should I bring along to the appointment?  It is best to choose people who are supportive, enthusiastic, and who know what your style is. Too many opinions can be overwhelming, and frustrating if you feel you have found the perfect dress and one of your bridal party disagree. We suggest bringing a maximum of 3-4 people. Should I take pictures at the appointment? We don’t advise taking pictures and feel that your favourite dress will be memorable; although we understand if you need to show a loved one who couldn’t be at your appointment with you.    How do I know if I’ve found “the dress”?  Usually a bride will feel amazing and instantly know if the dress is the one. It should stick in your mind. It can help if you have the approval from your bridal party to reassure you before making the final decision too.  To make sure it is the winning gown we will offer you a “favourite dress” appointment where you can come back and try on one or two dresses you loved with a fresh eye. We will also match veils and allow you to visualize your look when finished off with accessories.   What happens once I find my dress? We will take your measurements, process your order, and get you a glass of fizz to celebrate! Your initial fitting should take place 4 weeks before the wedding so that any alterations can be made in time. A second fitting is carried out 2 weeks before to make any final adjustments, then your dress will be ready for you to take away.

If you are still on the lookout for your perfect wedding dress, then we are excited to show you our stunning dress of the week by Australian designer Stella York. Style 6500 has been very popular with our Oscar Lili clients for some time now and we’re sure you can see why.  The soft fishtail silhouette is an extremely flattering fit which is enhanced by gorgeous sheer lace side cut-outs that give you the ultimate hourglass shape. We can’t get enough of the all-over lace and tulle fabric which is layered over matte-side satin, so it will drape perfectly and move with you effortlessly during your day. And when it comes to effortlessness, this dress truly is the one, as it is super lightweight and features a concealed zip fastening under the fabric covered button detail.  For a bit more glamour the lace is scattered with clear beading to give subtle sparkle, which will make you feel extra special on your wedding day. The addition of the sheer lace straps, sexy side cut-outs, and that amazing open back with button-up detail will wow your wedding guests and give you all the confidence you need for the big day.  To balance the sheer areas, the design features a high neckline which is more modest but ensures a modern look. This style is a classic and would work well within a traditional wedding setting as well as something more contemporary.  If you’d love to come try on style 6500 or any other Stella York designs, book an appointment at the Oscar Lili, Morningside boutique now and one of our consultants will help to style you to perfection!

The summer wedding season is in full swing here at Oscar Lili, and we’re excited to be welcoming the sunshine as well as a selection of fabulous styles from the Stella York 2019 collection that showcase this year’s key summer bridal trends.  The Australian-inspired design is youthful and fresh this summer and in true Stella York fashion, there is no compromise with glamour. We promise you will be glowing on your special day, and with expertly crafted fit and perfectly figure forming silhouettes all eyes will most definitely be on the bride.    This season traditional ball gown bridal gowns are a must-have for the bride who wants to make a statement and one of our favourites is Stella York 6581. Think traditional with a little extra something; this dress is an update on a princess style with an amazing voluminous tulle skirt and long train to give extra impact. The clean structured mikado bodice is super flattering and the deep plunge V-neckline, V-back and side cut-outs add a sexy, contemporary edge. The nude tulle inserts give reassurance when wearing this more revealing style and if you want to show a bit more skin for summer but feel a little wary then this could be the perfect dress for you. A concealed zip back fastening adds extra ease of wear, while the bodice is lightweight and the tulle skirt provides a lot of movement which is ideal for warmer days. If you are looking for more detail then you’ll be glad to hear that the romantic lace trend has been big on the runway; with embroidery, appliqué, soft tulle and florals taking centre stage. The perfect look for summer, we think Stella York 6732 is a style that has it all. This dress would be beautiful for a garden wedding with its floral patterned lace covering the bodice and creeping down onto the voluminous tulle skirt. 3D organza flowers are also scattered across the soft sheer tulle fabric to add subtle texture and romanticism. The bodice is a flattering corset style and has sheer areas between the lace, with off-shoulder pearl straps giving a real touch of glamour.    Another option if you love the whimsical floral look but want a more Boho bride feel, is Stella York 6646. This is such an elegant, contemporary dress which is also something a little different. It is all about the details with satin covered buttons fastening all the way down the back. The bodice is nude illusion with a beautiful statement floral lace which appears to flow off the shoulders, down to the waistline and just onto the French tulle and matte satin skirt. The long lace sleeves, A-line silhouette and lightweight feel of the gown provide a lovely relaxed style for summertime; however, with a dramatic plunge neckline and sheer open back you will still make quite the impression. Whether you are looking for dramatic and traditional, elegant summer simplicity or perhaps something a bit more playful, “with each creation a perfect complement to a bride’s attitude, style and spirit”, Stella York have ensured that there is something to suit everyone. We know you can never have too much choice when it comes to your wedding day and to make sure you find the perfect match we have a wide variety of styles for you to choose from in our Edinburgh boutique.
